At least 100 people were killed in incidents caused by landslide, flood and rains in several states in India, mostly in the eastern state of West Bengal, said officials Sunday.

Meanwhile, over 8 million people were affected in fresh floods due to excessive rains in several states, including the western states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, as well as West Bengal and its neighboring Odisha.

At least 48 died in West Bengal over the past two days, while 28 died in Rajasthan and five in Odisha, said the Indian Home Ministry.

Over 20 people were killed by landslide in the northeastern state of Manipur at the weekend due to heavy rains in the state.

Cyclone Komen from the Bay of Bengal has brought heavy rains to West Bengal and Odisha, submerging hundreds of villages and making tens of thousands homeless.

The local government has been rescuing people from marooned areas and setting up temporary shelters for the affected, while the Indian army has been called in by the government to help in rescue and relief operations.

Rajasthan has experienced excessive rainfall in most of its districts over the past week and the situation is described as " grim" by officials.

Members of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed for rescue and relief operations in the state.

In Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian army have rescued over 1,000 people from submerged villages and areas and is dropping food.
