Power supply in Huzhong District of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province resumed after heavy snow hit the region, local authorities said on Thursday.

More than 40,000 people's electricity supply was affected by the snow which began on Sunday. Some areas experienced 50 cm of snow.

Electricity was resumed late Wednesday night, according to the local power supply company.

Road traffic has also resumed, said the district government, adding that drivers need to stay cautious as the road remains slippery.

Huzhong District is located in northwest Heilongjiang Province, at the north foot of Dahinggan Mountains. The annual average temperature of the region is minus 4.3 degrees centigrade. It is named "China's coldest town" with a recorded lowest temperature in history of minus 53 degrees centigrade.
