Major 7.0-magnitude earthquake has rocked Tokyo, Japan's Meteorological Agency said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury and no tsunami warning was issued. The quake struck at 2.28pm local time, the agency said.
Its epicentre was located near Torishima, an island about 560km south of Tokyo.
It was about 370km deep.
A violent earthquake hit Japan on March and was followed by a ferocious tsunami which left thousands dead and led a radioactive leaks Fukushima, with losses topped at least $320 billion.
