An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rocked Saumlaki, capital of Maluku Tenggara Barat district, at 12.05 western Indonesian time on Wednesday. The quake was located at 7,47 degrees southern latitude and 130.41 degrees eastern longitude or 115 km northwest of Saumlaki at a depth of 10 km, ANTARA quoted Head of the Ambon Geophysics Station Benny Sipolo as saying. He said the quake was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami. He also said the office was intensively monitoring quakes in the area which was one of the quake-prone areas in which quakes with an intensity of 2-3 on the Richter scale occur almost every day.
