Light rain fell in Muscat Sunday afternoon as forecasters predicted hail and strong winds would be seen in other parts of Oman. Badr Al Baddaei, a weather enthusiast in Oman, said parts of Amerat and Rustaq received moderate to heavy rain on Sunday afternoon. “Some wadis overflowed in Rustaq due to heavy rains,” he said. In its weather outlook, the Oman Meteorology department said there would be cloudy skies over the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar, with chances of rain and strong winds. “There is also a possibility of rain in Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining governorates on Monday and Tuesday,” the advisory said. The sea is expected to be rough during this time. Parts of Oman’s interior experienced heavy rainfall with hail on Friday and Saturday. Overflowing wadis Rustaq, Samail and Al Khaburah all received significant downpours, with overflowing wadis and partially flooded villages. During all emergencies, the public should contact 9999 and follow weather forecasts only from professional bodies and local authorities. People should also avoid standing close to where lighting might strike and electricity poles, and be careful with low-hanging voltage wires. “In case your car gets stuck in a wadi stream, attempt to climb onto the roof of the car. Call for help, but attempt to stay on top of the car until you are rescued,” the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) said.
