A national reforestation campaign to supplement the forest damaged by an ice storm in February is moving to its climax in Slovenia on Saturday.
Under the guidance of professional foresters, about 500 volunteers, including scouts, are to plant a total of 28,000 tree seedlings in 17 locations across the country.
A similar number of trees is planned to be planted in spring 2015, said organizers of the campaign.
A week-long icy storm swept across Slovenia in February, inflicting great damage to infrastructure, like electric power facilities and transport links.
Besides, 25 million trees, equivalent to 10 million cubic meters of timber, were destroyed by the worst winter blizzards for decades.
To make up the heavy losses of forest, around 2.5 million seedlings needed to be planted in the coming years, the Forestry Service sources said.
