Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi chaired on Friday a meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) on the fringe of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Sisi delivered a speech on the efforts exerted by Egypt during its presidency of the committee to coordinate African stances on means of curbing climate change, especially before Paris' Climate Change Conference (COP21), slated for December.
Zimbabwe's President and Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Robert Mugabe took part in the meeting along with Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
The Paris summit is likely to come up with an agreement on a more inclusive international climate policy framework that captures current levels of ambition, and encourages further effort in future. Not all aspects of the deal will be legally binding, but it will cover a much greater percentage of global emissions than Kyoto ever did.
