A Swedish government agency Thursday ordered the immediate shutdown of one of the country's 10 nuclear reactors over security concerns. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority said nuclear reactor No. 2 at the Oskarshamn plant on the country's east coast did not fulfill the watchdog's requirements for reliable operations in case of a power failure. To ensure the secure operation of the plant, it was necessary to have backup power generating systems, such as diesel generators or gas turbines. The reactor's operator, OKG, "had not shown that the equipment necessary to guarantee a safe operation fulfills the agency's requirements," dpa quoted Leif Karlsson of the agency as saying. Three of Sweden's 10 reactors are located at Oskarshamn.
