Tepco finds highest levels of radiation at Fukushima nuclear reactor

The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has begun removing radioactive cesium from water in the spent fuel pool of one of the damaged reactors. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has installed a device to remove cesium inside the cooling water of the spent fuel pool at the No.2 reactor. The device became operational on Sunday. The concentration of radioactive cesium remains high in the cooling water of the spent fuel pools following meltdowns at the No. 1, 2, and 3 reactors, according to Japan''s broadcaster NHK World. TEPCO has been removing radioactive material from the reactors'' cooling water since July, but the No.2 reactor became the first where the procedure took place in the spent fuel pool. It aims to reduce the concentration of radioactive material in the water from one-hundredth to one- thousandth within about a month.
