Severe thunderstorms hit the central Gulf Coast Wednesday morning with at least two tornadoes touching down in Louisiana, weather forecasters said. One tornado touched down near the town of Tangipahoa, La., moving a two-story home 10 feet from its foundation, throwing over a semi-trailer truck and blowing away a trampoline, Accuweather.com reported. Another twister struck near Houma, La., blowing out the windows of a high school and damaging homes and structures in the area. In Philadelphia, Miss., winds from a strong thunderstorm sent a tree crashing through the living room of an unoccupied mobile home. Meteorologists said Wednesday's storms were expected to shift northeastward toward the Carolinas as the day progressed. Cities at risk for severe weather included Mobile, Montgomery and Birmingham, Ala., Atlanta, Columbia, S.C., and the North Carolina cities of Charlotte and Raleigh. The threat of severe thunderstorms was expected to diminish by Thursday as chilly weather moves across the eastern half of the United States.
