Much of the United Kingdom was under threat of wind-whipped freezing rain, sleet and snow through the weekend, forecasters said. The Met Office said the severe weather was expected to last until Monday morning, The Daily Telegraph. One to 4 inches of snow fell in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England Friday. Temperatures were expected to remain from near freezing to the low 40s Fahrenheit. The nasty weather triggered a number of traffic accidents, including a bus that overturned on a highway near Boston Spa, injuring four people, Cumbria police said. The storm also caused flights to be delayed at Liverpool, Manchester and Luton airports Friday, the Telegraph said. While retailers worried the bad weather would cause Christmas shoppers to hunker down, Scottish ski resorts were open for business Saturday. "Most runs are now complete with good cover," a spokesman for Nevis Range said. "There's great skiing on and off of the runs. You can easily ski back to the top station and to the base of the quad chair. There's ample beginners area."
