The project, which started in May 2010, is set to store up to 3 billion cubic meters of water and provide water for some 7 million people in Sudan.

The Upper Atbara Dams Complex Project, built by CTGC and the China Water and Electric Corporation (CWE), began to store water on Wednesday. The project, which started in May 2010, is set to store up to 3 billion cubic meters of water and provide water for some 7 million people in Sudan.
