A wildfire that broke out on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca off the east coast of Spain is burning out of control, authorities say. The fire, near Calvia in the southwestern region of the resort island, had already consumed about 50 acres by Tuesday afternoon, ThinkSpain reported. Eight helicopters are working to extinguish the blaze, which is not near any residential areas. Smoke from the fire was visible from the island's capital, Palma, 7.5 miles away. A second fire in Son Vida, near Calvia, was quickly extinguished. What started the fires was not immediately determined.
