Xinhua News Agency has established a social media presence to rapidly update the world on China's latest changes, tweeting news briefs from its official Twitter account, @XHNews. Even the most experienced observers of China can find it hard to sort out the avalanche of happenings occurring in the fast-changing country,also the world's second largest economy. @XHNews is offering a rolling report on the ongoing National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a major political event that occurs twice a decade and elects CPC's leadership. "Increasing people's incomes, fighting corruption and improving the Communist Party of China are three focal tasks, Premier Wen Jiabao said," read one recent tweet on Wen's remarks at a panel discussion during the 18th CPC National Congress. The income increase is a good news for not only Chinese citizens, but also foreign investors who want to scoop China's expanding consuming market. China's attitudes and moves also attract global eyes. @XHNews reminded @BarackObama and @MittRomney of the fact that both presidential candidates distorted for earning favor from voters in the October 22 debate. One tweet said, "US punitive tariffs on China tires saved 1,200 US jobs, as US consumers paid 1.1 bln USD more for higher-priced tires, Peterson Institute." Another tweet detailed that President Hu Jintao vowed to "resolutely safeguard China's maritime rights and interests and build China into a maritime power." The release drew instant attentions from Japanese audiences amid the tensions between China and Japan over the Diaoyu Islands. @XHNews also quoted Hu as saying that China would reform its political structure while refraining from copying the political systems of Western countries, which aroused many retweets and comments.
