A modern art exhibition titled Supermarket will be held from 20 June until 4 July at the Gezira Art Centre. The exhibition, which is organised by Studio Khana for Culture Development and in cooperation with a group of independent artists, emulates the model of the supermarket in order to explore our consumerist reality. According to the press release, the idea for the project first came to the artists two years ago with the aim to study the thought and behaviour in a consumerist society dominating the life of Egyptians. However, the realisation of the project was postponed because of the political events in Egypt after the January 25 Revolution. The team of Supermarket seeks to form an art group that depends on creative installations and videos to find a language of communication with society and holding art exhibition every 6 months. The artists include Ahmed Abdel Fattah, Amr Amer, Gehad Anwar, Bassem Yousri, Islam Kamal and May El-Hossami. Gezira Art Centre is located in El-Sheikh El-Marsafy Street, Zamalek, Cairo.
