Milan - Arab Today

A high-powered delegation of Emirati and Arab media personnel arrived in Italy on Tuesday to visit the UAE pavilion at Expo Milano 2015, which was opened earlier last month.

The visit, which comes in pursuance of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aims at briefing the delegation on the important points that will help Dubai in it's journey towards hosting the world's biggest ever exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai.

The delegation includes all reporters of local Press, Dubai Media Corporation, Arab media group, editors-in-chief, editors and prominent columnists in local Arabic dailies as well as representatives of Arab media entities, which include Arabic daily Asharq Al-Awsat, Al Arabiyya TV channel. Elaf online newspaper, Sky News Arabia and Al Arabiya English website.

Mona Al Marri, Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, said that Emirati participation is a significant move as it will help the UAE get acquainted with the ins and outs of the exhibition, and get clarity on the concepts it is promoting and would help in getting an idea about the administration and organisation of an event of such a big scale.

UAE pavilion

A visitor to the pavilion will see three sections; the first features the past, the second shows the present and the third is about the future of the UAE. Next, he/she will watch a movie in Italian language with Emirati actors.

The seven-minute film features the history and struggle of the UAE with the discovery of water and the hardships borne by the people of the UAE due to the scarcity of water in the mid-last century.

The UAE had been suffering for the last 50 years, until the milestone achievements which are seen in the sustainable energies, substitute energy and the futuristic perspective of the country. It is expected that Expo Milano 2015 will draw more than 20 million visitors, that will include world famous personalities.

Ten million entry tickets, costing Euros 30 a piece, have been sold so far. Kuwait, Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman are also taking part in the exhibition with eye-catching pavilions.

Expo 2020 Dubai

Expo 2020 Dubai is seen as an important event that is set to attract more than 20 million visitors of whom 70 per cent will be from outside the UAE.

The event — that will run from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021 — is expected to generate revenues of more than €17 billion.

It will have positive economic impact and will help create more than 275,000 job opportunities, which include tourism, aviation, construction and real estates, transport among others.
