In an effort to encourage athletes to read and to expand their knowledge in health and sports, Knowledge Without Borders (KWB), the Sharjah-based pioneering cultural project, has launched a sports library in collaboration with CrossFit Hour GYM, containing a large collection of sports books.
Commenting on the new initiative, Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of Knowledge Without Borders, said, "We are keen through all our initiatives to promote reading and foster a love of the written word among various segments of society. We have already launched several initiatives for children, hospital patients, travellers at airports, visitors to parks, cafes, and public places, as well as for government employees and customers at government bodies. Stemming from our eagerness to preserve the mental and physical health of athletes and develop their physical capabilities, today we are targeting athletes. We strive to encourage them to read and believe that having a library in the gym would draw their attention more to books and encourage them to take up reading as a daily habit to develop their knowledge." Mohammed Al Musharrakh, Director of CrossFit Hour Gym, lauded the outstanding initiative by Knowledge Without Borders, which reflects the wise leadership of Sharjah's interest in encouraging cultural work and achieving the integration of mental and physical health.
The new library will be available for reading within the gym or for those who want to borrow books. It has a variety of books covering various topics, including sport, health, nutrition, fitness, and psychology, all in Arabic and suitable for all ages.
The CrossFit Hour is a fitness, health and lifestyle gym dedicated to the improvement of athletic performance and quality of life. It is inspired by the training of special forces and elite troops, and is classified as one of the best fitness regimens in the world.
Knowledge Without Borders was launched as an initiative by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and is closely supervised and supported by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of KWB.
The initiative aims to establish reading as a habit in every household in the UAE, by encouraging home libraries, and supplying these libraries with the best reads in various subjects suitable for the entire family.
