The National Library Collection in Norway announced the discovery of a 1927 Disney cartoon previously thought to have been lost forever.
The library said "Empty Socks," starring pre-Mickey Mouse character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, was found on a pair of unlabeled film rolls by researchers working to digitize the library's collection.
It was previously believed only 25 seconds of the silent cartoon survived at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, but the new discovery totals five and a half minutes, missing only about 30 seconds of footage from the middle of the cartoon.
A public showing of the film, along with "Tall Timber," another 1920s Disney cartoon starring Oswald, has been scheduled for Dec. 17 at the library.
The library said a digital copy of the film has been sent to Walt Disney Co. archivists in the United States.
