In its fourth edition the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) will screen films from 41 countries.
The festival, which will run between 16 and 21 March, is dedicated to late Egyptian actor Khaled Saleh.
On Sunday, LAFF head Sayed Fouad announced that a book chronicling the legacy of Saleh will be published in his memory. The book will be put together by film critic Tarek El-Shinnawy.
The festival will also honour Egyptian actress Laila Elwi, celebrated filmmaker Khaled Youssef as well as Idrissa Ouedraogo from Burkina Faso.
Ouedraogo is best known for his Yam Daabo (The Choice) and Tilai (The Law), both of which received recognition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986 and 1990 respectively. His film Samba Traore won the Silver Bear at the 43rd Berlin International Festival in 1992.
As is custom since the festival's inception, there will be a directing and scriptwriting workshop headed by Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima. Gerima, who resides in the US, is a film professor at Howard University in Washington, DC.
Every year, the outcome of the workshop is shown to the public at the end of the festival.
