Italian trio, a French stringed instrument group, and the Tunisian symphonic orchestra performed Monday at the sixth International Cultural Festival of Symphonic Music in Algiers.
First to appear at Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre (TNA) was the Italian trio, made up of Maria Teresa Strappati playing clarinet, soprano singer Anna Caterina Cornacchini, and Marco Flumeri on the piano, who performed about ten pieces, including those of Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Verdi and Gioachino Rossini.
The French orchestra, composed of sixteen young musicians from the Conservatoire, conducted by Alain Jacquon, performed pieces from the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, Gustav Mahler and Benjamin Britten.
Conducted by Hafedh Makni, the Tunisian symphonic Orchestra, represented by about forty musicians, including Bassem Makni on the piano, was the last to perform on Monday, giving a concert, including pieces of Edward Elgar, Edvar Grieg, J. Ayad and Mohamed Makni.
Nineteen countries are participating at the sixth International Cultural Festival of Symphonic Music, to run until September 19 in Algiers, with five concerts in other regions of Algeria.
Japanese quartet "Yokohama Sinfonietta," Pole "Karnas Trio" and the symphonic orchestra of Ukrainian National Radio will perform Tuesday, the festival's fifth evening, with pieces of Frederic Chopin, Sergei Prokofiev, Ludwig Van Beethoven and Johann Strauss.
