Kuwait’s National Library has organized a symposium about translation to mark the international translation day.
Kamil Al-Abdeljalil the Director of the Kuwait National Library inaugurated the event with a speech about the importance of translation in promoting cultural interaction among nations who speak different languages. He also stressed that translation is a great responsibility as a small error in translation could lead to huge problem, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Several Arab countries including Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates have enacted special regulations for translation services, he said.
On the side-lines of the symposium, the library organized an exhibition of the translated Kuwaiti books of historical and cultural significance.
International Translation Day is celebrated yearly on September 30. The celebrations have been promoted by the International Federation of Translators ever since it was set up in 1953.
In 1991, the FIT launched the idea of an officially recognized International Translation Day to show solidarity of the worldwide translation community in an effort to promote the translation profession in different countries, KUNA reported.
