Qatar Museums Authority’s Be Amusing film, produced by Resolution Productions, a Qatar-based production company, was awarded the eminent “Black Dolphin” trophy in the “Best Editing” category at the 2012 Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. This prestigious international festival is exclusively for corporate films and TV documentaries and is based in the historic film city of Cannes, France. The Be Amusing film was part of the “Be Amusing Campaign” which was created by QMA’s dynamic Human Capital Division for the 5th Career Fair for Qatari students studying in the United Kingdom. The career fair was held at the Grosvenor House – Marriott Hotel in London, on 24 and 25 February 2012. In keeping with their vision of positioning themselves as a global leader in the world of museums, art and heritage, QMA sponsors the UK Career Fair, which is aimed at attracting accomplished and talented Qatari students who seek career opportunities after graduation. QMA and Resolution Productions were presented with the “Black Dolphin” trophy and a special diploma at an impressive ceremony organised on October 18, 2012 at Palm Beach, Cannes, France. A delegation from Qatar Museums Authority headed by Sharoq al-Malki, chief human capital officer, and including Nadine Chetty, learning & development director, Afraa al-Noaimi, head of performance appraisal, attended the Awards Gala Dinner, along with the team from Resolution Productions which included Kirby Kearns, managing director and Craig Chaplin, head of post-production who edited the winning film. Commenting on the significance of this award for QMA, al-Malki said, “We are so thrilled that our work, a campaign which aims to recruit highly qualified young Qatari staff to assist in achieving QMA’s vision, was presented with a ‘Dolphin’ trophy at such an important international festival recognised by the corporate film industry. The idea of producing this film stems from our belief that audio-visual material plays a very important role in every successful campaign. QMA’s success is Qatar’s success and we would not have achieved this without the continuous support and encouragement of QMA chairperson HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.” Kirby Kearns, managing director of Resolution Productions added: “To be taking home the first ever Cannes Award for any Qatar based company makes this a night we will all remember for a long time. It is not just a testament to the editing skills of Craig Chaplin, but to all those from Resolution who worked so hard to make this film a success.” The Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards 2012 included a record number of 666 entrants from 35 countries across the 5 continents. The Be Amusing film by QMA was among the 129 entries that received one of the “Dolphin” trophies.
