The sixth international cultural Festival of symphonic music will take place September 12-19 at National Theatre Mahiedine-Bachtarzi, in Algiers, with the participation of several classical orchestras from nineteen countries, the event's organizers said Tuesday.
Twelve or so concerts are scheduled at the festival, whose guest of honour is Belgium, through the participation of the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia-Brussels, said Bouazzara Abdelkader, the festival's manager.
Five concerts have been given in Tizi-Ouzou, Sidi Bel Abbes, Oran and Tlemcen, providing a tinge of regional delocalization to the festival, first created in Algiers.
The opening evening will take place on Friday, featuring the National Symphonic Orchestra (OSN) with the most popular operas of Giuseppe Verdi, in the first partof the evening, and the six symphony of Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovski in the second part.
SopranoCatherine Manandaza, of Malagasy origin, will perform extracts from Italian composer's works, according to Amine Kouider, the conductor of the National Symphonic Orchestra.
