Are you there Judy Blume fans?
The beloved author of books for children and young adults announced last summer that she's been working on her second-ever book for adults since 1998's Summer Sisters, but waited until today to reveal title and plot details.
The book, titled In the Unlikely Event, is based on a real-life series of airplane crashes in Elizabeth, N.J., Blume's hometown, between 1951 and 1952. Blume said in a release that that the crashes "have lingered in my mind ever since."
"It was a crazy time. We were witnessing things that were incomprehensible to us as teenagers. Was it sabotage? An alien invasion? No one knew, and people were understandably terrified," she said.
According to a synopsis, In the Unlikely Event will tell the stories of "three generations of families, friends, and strangers, who will be profoundly affected by these events, either directly or indirectly."
Blume, who said she has been researching the book since 2009, also released the cover on her Twitter account and thanked fans for their enthusiasm. In the Unlikely Event will hit shelves June 2, 2015.
Pub date is June 2. Still polishing. Will be hard to say goodbye to these characters. #InTheUnlikelyEvent— Judy Blume (@judyblume) December 15, 2014
