New York - Arab Today

From the US to France, Vietnam and Sweden, office workers around the world will be loosening their ties and kicking off their heels on Tuesday to join a global lunch hour dance-athon created to let workers blow off steam and put on their dancing shoes midday. Instead of eating stale sandwiches at their desks, 9 to 5ers in cities like Boston, Copenhagen, Paris and Ho Chi Minh City will gather over their lunch break to participate in the fifth edition of Lunch Beat. For the first time this year, events around the world will be held simultaneously on the same day, Tuesday, May 6, to bring the “tribes” together. What began as an underground movement by Swede Molly Range in Stockholm in 2010 has now become a global phenomenon, with Lunch Beat parties hosted in 90 cities around the world. The concept is simple: For one hour, 9 to 5ers can blow off steam, get some exercise and take in DJ-spun tunes at a midday dance party. The only requirement: “you have to dance.” And shop talk is highly discouraged. Organizers also stress that the event is everything but a flash mob and should be held far from prying eyes, namely in a closed-off venue. For a complete listing of Lunch Beat events being held around the world, visit http://www.lunchbeat.org/. If no event is being organized near you, some events may livestream their party. Use the hashtag #LunchBeat on Facebook or Twitter to follow along. Source: Relaxnews
