Moroccan playwright Zakaria Abou Maria Abdelkrim won on Thursday Tayeb Saleh 1st literary prize (drama category) for his adaptation of the epic Tayeb Salah novel “Season of Migration to the North.” In the novel category, the prize went to Syrian Taoufika Ali Habour and Egypt’s Hassan Abdel-Rahman won the first short story prize. The jury, chaired by Moroccan critic Said Yaktine, had to choose between 587 contestants from 587 countries, including 15 Arab ones. The prize is named after Tayeb Salih (1928-2009), a critically acclaimed and popular writer in the Arab world.
