Maldivian presidential elections got underway Saturday with one of the three candidates, Qasim Ibrahim, among the first to vote at an election aborted twice before, officials said. "Voting got underway at 475 polling booths across the Maldives and several foreign capitals where Maldivians live," Elections Commission official Aishath Reema told AFP. The September 7 election was annulled by the Supreme Court and a re-run on October 19 was also blocked by courts and police, but all three candidates agreed to Saturday's rescheduled poll following intense foreign pressure.
