Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan Hamad Al-Duaij on Wednesday inaugurated two local projects here, funded by Kuwait at a cost of KD 24,500 (around USD 85,400), aimed at serving the residents of the city of Madaba.
The projects were implemented by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Relief and Development for providing a safe and proper infrastructure as well as comfortable transport in the city of Madaba.
"Financing those two projects comes upon the instructions and support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to improve environment of local societies that host refugees," Ambassador Al-Duaij said in address to Madaba's residents.
"The inauguration of this event here coincides with the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a 'humanitarian leader' and Kuwait as a 'humanitarian center," he added.
"The honoring of His Highness the Amir is an honoring of all Arabs, especially countries, including Jordan, which receive refugees," he affirmed, stressing that Kuwait seeks to help those countries overcome their obstacles.
For his part, Andrew Harper, UNHCR's representative in Jordan, expressed his gratitude to State of Kuwait for supporting refugees here.
He added the UNHCR is committed to support Jordan through carrying out effective and sustainable projects in local areas which need more services for refugees and nationals, stressing that the UNCHR in 2014 planned for implementing more than 30 projects worth USD 3 million nationwide.
The projects included expanding and developing services in the Garden of Zayd ibn Haritha and bus station in Madaba.
