Abu Dhabi - Wam

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today announced the completion of the first phase of the new cargo terminal for handling perishable goods at Abu Dhabi International Airport. This new facility will significantly improve the handling capabilities of Abu Dhabi Cargo Company (ADCC), the cargo handler and subsidiary of ADAC. With an area of over 6000 sq. meters, the new facility offers dedicated storage rooms to stock a range of perishable products such as meats and fruits; including a separate room for palletized cargo. The terminal is also designed to have separate sections for customs examination, and a laboratory dedicated to Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) for food sampling. The first phase of the project include two bulk storage rooms, a dedicated area for storage of palletized goods added to the section for transit cargo, and an increased storage capacity of four new bulk storage rooms for the import cargo. This provides an enhanced segregation of transit and import cargo, consistent with IATA's Perishable Cargo Regulations. ADAC commented: "ADAC is pleased to have this new advanced facility at ADCC. This state of the art facility will significantly improve the handling capabilities of Abu Dhabi Cargo Company as it allows our cargo customers the freedom to safely transport a wider variety of cargo including important items such as medical and biological samples. ADAC also work closely with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, to guarantee that all of the perishable goods transported through ADCC align with safety and security regulations." Phase II of the perishable terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2011, and is designed to enhance the capability of handling meat shipments in accordance with the guidelines established by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA).
