The Minister of Commerce Osman Omer Al-Sharif led Sudan delegation to take part in the two-day 28th Ministerial Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which is to be held Wednesday in Tunisia.
In a telephone call with SUNA from the Tunisian Capital, Tunis, Tuesday, the Advisor of the Minister of Commerce Dr. Shaza Osman Al-Sharif said that the meeting of senior officials was held and Sudan selected as rapporteur of this session represented in the Director of External Trade Abdal-Aziz Mabrouk. She added that 22 Arab states participated in the meeting besides the Arab League and regional and international organizations.
Dr. Shaza revealed that the meeting discussed the economic situations in Arab region during the past period, ESCWA strategy, poverty and unemployment as well as women issues and development goals for post 2015 period.
The meeting also tackled the socio-economic repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the Palestinian people in the occupied territory and the best ways to support them.
the Advisor of the Minister of Commerce stated that meetings will continue today to endorse the reports of transportation, services and the Centre of Science and Technology, revealing that, Dr. Issa Tarteeb Shatir, the Director of Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Trade has been selected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre of Science and Technology for three years.
It is worth mentioning that the 28th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia is being organized under the auspices of Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, under the banner of Social Justice in the Policies of Arab States.
