The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ and the joint venture of Hamad Ben Khaled Contracting Company (HBK Contracting Co. W.L.L.) and QBS International WLL, achieved a new accomplishment in the field of safety in the workplace through completing the Al Rayyan Road Development Project – Jassim Bin Mohammed Street with 1.2 million man-hours without loss time injury (LTI).
This significant achievement comes as a result of Ashghal’s commitment to achieve its clear objectives and plans which include setting safety standards as part of the prequalification prerequisites taken into account in the selection process of contractors in order to maintain workers' safety and to protect them against workplace hazards.
Ashghal has held an awarding celebration at its headquarters to mark this achievement. Representatives from Ashghal’s Expressway Programme and others from the joint venture attended the ceremony during which Eng. Nasser Ghaith Al Kuwari, Manager of Ashghal’s Expressway Department, awarded the certificate of appreciation to Eng. Osama Shaaban, Managing director of QBS International WLL, for achieving 1.2 Million Man-Hours without Loss Time Injury and for the company's commitment to ensure the required safety standards and measures are implemented in the work zones.
This achievement significantly demonstrates Ashghal's commitment to the highest safety standards in the workplace by imposing a number of safety measures on all the contractors implementing Ashghal’s projects. Ashghal aims at protecting workers against workplace and commuters hazards throughout the project period.
Furthermore, Ashghal contributes to achieving workers’ safety by following a set of requirements to choose contractors eligible to implement its projects. The contractors are required to submit a clear and comprehensive plan on providing a secure working environment for the workers. Ashghal also implements safety procedures and policies across all projects to ensure commitment and compliance from all contractors to achieve zero % incidents: work accidents and injuries, environmental harm, and security and safety breaches.
