There has been a rise in car rental registrations and decline in new vehicle registrations by both individuals and corporates in the first three months of 2017.
According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics Information (NCSI) in Oman, the January to March period saw a 2.4 per cent rise in the registration of new rental vehicles at 1,087.
On the other hand, a sharp 25.6 per cent decline was recorded in the number of new vehicles registered in the Sultanate during the same period.
New vehicle registrations fell to 18,797 from last year’s 25,265 registrations, out of which private vehicle registrations declined 23.4 per cent to 13,751, while commercial vehicle registrations came down 38.4 per cent to 3,596.
During the whole of last year, as many as 100,144 new vehicles were registered. Meanwhile, the total number of vehicles on the roads of Oman as of March-end 2017 stood at over 1.387 million, the report says.
