Egypt to increase area planted with wheat to 2.5m acres

The Ministry of Agriculture said on Wednesday that the total area planted with wheat would be increased to 2.5 million acres to cut down the cereal grain annual imports.
The increase comes as part of a plan to enhance food security in the world's largest wheat importer, Agriculture Minister Adel el-Beltagui said.
The government is committed to purchase one ardeb of wheat [equal to roughly 150kg] for EGP 420, the minister said, adding, all needed crop production seeds and fertilizers would be provided.
