Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab asserted that the 2015-2030 national strategy for population aims to face the overpopulation in light of the declining economic growth rates and limited natural resources.
The current birth rates increase the burden on the budget, Mahlab said during a conference on launching the 2015-2030 national strategy for population and development.
The premier called on the media, NGOs and men of religion to back the government's population strategy.
"Egypt's population has tripled from 1950 to 2000, while the natural resources remained unchanged," Mahlab told the conference.
