Minister of public works Abdulaziz al-Ibrahim
Kuwait - KUNA

Two major road works, when finished, will serve to alleviate traffic congestion and tie-ups in two customarily crowded regions of Kuwait, said Minister of Public Works, Electricity, and Water Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim on Wednesday as he checked on the progress of these two important thoroughfares. Work on the Jamal Abdul-Nasser highway has resulted up to now in having finished about 37 percent of it and its total completion is expected by mid-2017, said the minister as he examined the roadwork there. As for the Al-Jahra highway, the second of the two road projects, the minister said it was more than 60 percent finished with the expectation that it will be completed totally by the first half of 2016.
Emphasizing the crucial importance of these two mega projects in easing traffic congestion in the northern and western regions of the country, the minister noted that the Jamal Abdul-Nasser highway would eventually cost KD 242 million at completion time and will serve the traffic needs of areas, among other places, around the campus of Kuwait University, the Ministry of Defense complex, Al-Shuaikh port, and a number of major hospitals in that part of the country. The highway itself will be approximately 10 km long and will have four major intersections, he said.
As for Al-Jahra highway, he noted that it will cost KD 264 million by completion time and will be about 11 km long with three major intersections. He promised that work on these two major thoroughfares will go on indefatigably and will be completed on schedule.
