A part of Algiers Citadel, a high political and military place dating back to the 16th century, which is currently under restoration, will be delivered shortly, announced Thursday in Algiers Abdelwahab Zekagh, director of the National Office of Management and Exploitation of Protected Cultural Heritage (OGEBC).
In an inspection visit led by Culture Minister Nadia Labidi, Mujahedeen (War veterans) Minister Tayeb Zitouni and Governor of Algiers Abdelkader Zoukh of some sites of Casbah of Algiers, Zekagh unveiled the parts of the construction sites which are being completed including the area of janissaires, restored to over 70%.
Other parts of this fortification transformed into a residence of Dey, are under restoration or study like the Mosque of the Dey or the Palace of Beys.
The Citadel will include, according to Abdelwahab Zekagh, “a large museum, multimedia space and guest residence.”
