The inflation rate in consumer prices for the first two months of 2017 was 2.0 percent as compared to the same period of last year, as shown by the increase in the Consumer Price Index, CPI, to 107.7, up from 105.6 during the same period of 2016.

The Abu Dhabi region contributed 54.6 percent of the total increase compared with the same period last year, while the Al-Ain region contributed 39.7 percent and the Al Gharbia region 5.6 percent, according to the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi.

The CPI increased by 2.1 percent in February 2017 compared with same period last year, similarly, index increased by 0.1 percent in February compared with January 2017.

The rise in consumer prices for the first two months of 2017 compared with same period of 2016, contributed to an increase of 2.2 percent in consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare level over the same period of comparison. Consumer prices rose by 2.5 percent and 1.6 percent for households of the middle and the top welfare levels respectively.

Consumer prices during the first two months increased by 2.4 percent for citizen households, followed by 1.7 percent for non-citizen households and 1.3 percent for share households.

The ‘Transport’ group contributed 20.1 percent to the overall increase in the CPI. Prices of this group increased by 2.9 percent over the same period.

The prices of the ‘Recreation and Culture’ group decreased by 9.9 percent, which contributed 23.4 percent in reducing the overall increase in the CPI.
