UAE's Minister of International Cooperation and Development Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi undersecroed here on Monday the importance of the role by the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in enhancing efforts by the international community in humanitarian disasters.
During her meeting with Neal Keny Guyer, the CEO of the American global aid agency, Mercy Corps, Sheikha Lubna noted that the NGOs also have been playing an important role in responding to humanitarian disasters and crises, said an official statement carried by Emirate News Agency (WAM).
The minister praised Mercy Corps' charitable and humanitarian efforts, which she said clearly proves the active role that NGOs play in conjunction with the governments, adding it reflects the positive values and philosophy of voluntary work, noted the statement.
For his part, Guyer voiced his appreciation for the UAE's pivotal role in international development, contribution and response to various humanitarian crises and disasters in different parts of the world, it pointed out.
He also urged the international community and the governments to support the NGOs working in humanitarian fields.
