The Jordanian government signed two agreements with Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) worth 40 million euros granted from the European Union to develop the water sector in Jordan, part of the European response to the crisis of Syrian refugees.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOP), the agreements were signed by the Jordanian Minister of MOP, Eng. Imad N. Fakhoury and the manager of AFD in Jordan Serge Snrech today.

After signing the agreement, Al Fakhoury said that the Europion Union is granting Jordan two grants worth 40 million euros to contribute to the total funding of improving water accessibility and distribution performance in relation to disposal of sewage in the Irbid Governorate to support water development projects and host communities as part of the European Union in response to the Syrian crisis.

He further added that the total cost of the project is 144 million Euros which will be achieved through concessional financing, as 50% will be in the form of highly concessional loans from the AFD, a German government-owned development bank, KfW and the rest are grants from the European Union.
