The Arab League has slammed Israel's decision to halt the transfer of tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinians in retaliation for the Palestinian Authority's move to join the international criminal court in the Hague.
In press statements on Friday, AL assistant secretary-general for Palestinian affairs, Mohammed Sobeih called on the international community to take an action to stop to get Israel to transfer the tax revenues.
He noted that the move runs contrary to laws and international obligations.
The action is a “clear theft and collective punishment" of the Palestinian people, he said.
He pointed out that the Arab Peace Initiative Committee will hold a meeting Thursday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.
A proposal will be put forward to the committee to provide an urgent financial safety net to enable the Palestinian leadership to fulfill the needs of the Palestinian people, he said.
