Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced that the Australian Government will provide a further AUD10 million in urgent humanitarian assistance for Gaza.
The assistance will be delivered through the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), according to a press release issued by the Australian Embassy in Amman.
This funding is an addition to AUD5 million provided to UNRWA and NGOs in late July and to Australia’s existing commitment of AUD56.6 million for development assistance to the Palestinian Territories this year, Foreign Minister Bishop said.
The minister added that the Australian Government continued to call for an end to the conflict and for there to be negotiated two-state solution that would allow the Israeli and Palestinian peoples to live in peace and security with internationally recognised borders.
