Egyptian state statistics agency CAPMAS announced on Sunday that China had been named chief exporter to Egypt in 2010, during which total imports from China rose by 27.5 per cent compared to the previous year. According to CAPMAS, Chinese exports to Egypt in 2010 were worth a total of LE28 billion (roughly $4.6 billion) versus LE22 billion (roughly $3.6 billion) in 2009. Total imports from East Asian countries to Egypt in 2010 rose by some 29 per cent and were worth a total of LE74.7 billion (roughly $12.4 billion), CAPMAS also noted, compared to a total value of LE58 billion (roughly $10 billion) the previous year.
