The volume of retail trade in euro zone in November 2013 rose by 1.4 percent as compared with the previous month in the same year, European Union (EU) statistics office Eurostat said on Wednesday. The retail sales in November rebounded from a 0.4 percent decline in October, showing the biggest monthly jump since November 2001. In the wider 28-member EU, the month on month rate rose by 1.2 percent at the same time. Retail trade in November increased by 1.6 percent and 2.0 percent year-on-year respectively in eurozone and in the EU. Among components of retail trade, "Food, drinks and tobacco" underwent a 1.1 percent increase in the eurozone and 0.9 percent in the EU on a monthly base, and the non-food sector rose by 1.9 percent and 1.7 percent respectively in the euro zone and in the EU. With respect to annual changes, "Food, drinks and tobacco" rose by 1.4 percent in the euro zone and by 1.1 percent in the EU. The non food sector increased by 2.4 percent and 3.3 percent respectively in euro zone and in the EU.
