New Delhi - XINHUA

The Indian government has approved a protocol of the International Labor Organization (ILO) to formulate a national policy to prevent and eliminate bonded labor.

"The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for placing the new Instrument adopted by the ILO-Protocol to the Forced Labor Convention ... Supported by Forced Labor Recommendation, 2013... before Parliament," an official release said Wednesday.

Forced labor is common in India, particularly involving children.

Indian police often rescue children from forced labor with help from non-government organizations and try to reunite them with their families.
