Iran and Turkmenistan seek to increase the value of their economic transactions from the current $3.7 billion to $60 billion within the next 10 years, Press tv reported.
The pledge was announced during a meeting between Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkmen opposite number Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat on Wednesday.
Rouhani said the target is quite possible given the capacities and potentials of the two countries as well as the political will of their leaders.
In a joint press conference with his Turkmen counterpart, Rouhani also announced that Iran and Turkmenistan are determined to accelerate the construction and activation of the South-North corridor from the Sea of Oman and Iran to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in order to serve the interests of all regional countries.
On Wednesday, the two countries also signed 17 cooperation agreements in political, economic and cultural areas as well as cooperation on environment and fight against terrorism.
During the meeting, Rouhani said Tehran seeks to import electricity from Ashgabat and export technical and engineering services to the Central Asian country.
Rouhani also appreciated Turkmenistan for backing Tehran for its nuclear program and said the two countries share common views on regional and international developments.
Rouhani calls for enhancing Iran-Turkmenistan ties.
