Iranian exporters want to supply eggs to Russia following Moscow’s ban on produce from Western countries, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.
“Iran will start exporting eggs to Russia in the next two weeks,” Managing Director of the Union of Iran's Egg Exporters Hedayat Asghari said, adding that the country was ready to export 5,000 tons of eggs to Russia every month.
Asghari said Iran produced an extra 20,000 tons of eggs every month, and part of Iran's egg production surplus was also exported to Iraq, Armenia, Tajikistan and Georgia.
In response to Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis, Russia banned all meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetable imports from the United States, the 28-nation European Union, Norway, Canada, and Australia for one year.
