The trade volume with the United Kingdom reached GBP four billion (USD 6.1 billion) in 2014, Director General of Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr. Mishaal Jaber Al-Sabah said Wednesday.
His remarks to KUNA came on the sideline of the trade and investment subcommittee of the fifth meeting for the joint Kuwaiti-British Steering Group on the level of senior officials.
Eradicating obstacles facing investors and exchanging expertise and visits, as well as reviewing British real estate tax laws were among the issues discussed in the subcommittee meeting, Sheikh Mishaal noted.
He added that the meeting shed light on the Kuwaiti business environment in order to familiarize British investors with it.
Meanwhile, and in the culture and education subcommittee, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs, Credit Transfer and Scholaships at the Ministry of Higher Education Maysara Al-Falah announced that the British side agreed to increase number of academic seats for Kuwaiti students.
She told KUNA that the conferees stressed significance of academic exchange between Kuwait University and British schools, pointing out to last week's meeting with officials from the University of Leeds, which resulted in granting 20 additional seats in medicine and dentistry.
She added that the Kuwaiti side asked to be informed and provided with the most important work shops in the field of education, as well as agreeing on cooperating in research on renewable energy, petrol and gas through forming research groups from Kuwaiti scientific entities with their British peers.
