Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had a meeting in Alma-Ata with Kazakhstan’s counterpart Karim Masimov, the Russian government’s website reported on Saturday.
The prime ministers discussed economic cooperation between the two countries as well as cooperation in the framework of the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, the website reads.
Masimov said in the greeting remarks that “in two weeks the Eurasian Economic Union is going to start operating and I’d like to exchange views on directions of our work.”
Medvedev suggested that they should speak about the current bilateral relations, the global situation and “about main economic trends that are forming now.”
Speaking about the oil market, the Russian prime minister noted its actuality for both counties.
Russia and Kazakhstan are large exporters and “now diversified events are taking place on the oil market, which definitely affects the economic situation.”
Medvedev spoke about “the progress of our integration project, moreover new participants are to join it.”
Also, Masimov said that Kazakhstan was interested in bidding to host the Winter Olympics and Russia’s advice and experience would be useful.
On December 14-15, Medvedev is to participate in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries’ prime ministers in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.
