Myanmar and Vietnam have pledged to boost bilateral relations and cooperation in trade, investment, hotels and tourism, an official media reported Friday.

The pledge was made during talks between Myanmar Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi and visiting Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam in Nay Pyi Taw.

Invitation was extended to Suu Kyi by her Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh through Vu Hong Nam to attend the 9th Myanmar-Vietnam Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in Vietnam at a future date, the report said.

The last 8th meeting of its kind was held in Nay Pyi Taw in May 2015 with the two sides seeking to cooperate in a wide range of sectors.

The two countries vowed to raise their bilateral trade to 500 million U.S. dollars.

According to official statistics, Myanmar-Vietnam bilateral trade reached 239.28 million U.S. dollars in the fiscal year 2014-15, of which Myanmar's export to Vietnam stood 56.05 million dollars, while its import from Vietnam took 183.23 million dollars.

Vietnamese investment in Myanmar has topped 693.262 million U.S. dollars as of March 2016, ranking the 10th in Myanmar's foreign investors' line-up.
