Prime Minister Sherif Ismail
Cairo - MENA

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail met on Monday with executive board member of A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and CEO of APM Terminals Kim Fejfer.

At the meeting, the prime minister welcomed Maersk's activities in Egypt in the fields of maritime transport and logistics services.

Ismail stressed that the State is working to carry out a number of projects to upgrade the infrastructure across the country, particularly in the Suez Canal zone.

Six tunnels are being built under the Suez Canal, the ports in the area are developed and an economic zone is under establishment there, noted the premier.

Cabinet spokesman Hosam Qawish said that the Maersk official presented during the meeting a report on the group's operations in Egypt and a proposed investment plan in the coming period.

He also reviewed the aspects of cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, which contributed to the increase of the group's operations in Egypt this year.

Fejfer lauded Egypt's efforts to expand and develop ports and their services, which will have a tangible effect on increasing the world maritime transport in Egypt and receiving more ships.

The prime minister praised the group's plans to pump more investments in Egypt in the coming period.

He pointed out to several projects in the field of searching and exploring gas and petroleum, which are being carried out in cooperation between the Egyptian Petroleum Ministry and Maersk as well as other international companies.

The Maersk Group is a worldwide conglomerate that operates in some 130 countries with a workforce of over 89,000 employees. Owning the world’s largest container shipping company, Maersk is involved in a wide range of activities in the shipping, logistics, and the oil and gas industries.

The Maersk Group has five core businesses which include Maersk Line, APM Terminals, Maersk Oil, Maersk Drilling and APM Shipping Services, which combines the four business units Maersk Supply Service, Svitzer, Maersk Tankers and Damco.
